Important Announcement: General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Monday, May 21, 2018

We would like to draw your attention towards one of the biggest regulatory changes that will soon be upon us - the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). On May 25, 2018, the European Union’s sweeping new data privacy regulation, the General Data Privacy Regulation (GDPR), officially goes into effect. At CentrioHost Limited, we take data privacy and the general security needs of our customers seriously. As such, HostSEO is making important updates to our Website, Terms of Use and Privacy Policy that will go live on May 23, 2018. And although the GDPR safeguards are designed to protect and empower citizens of the European Union, we have decided to implement many of these changes for all of our customers. These updates include providing more information and clarity about how we collect, use, and share any personal information you may give to us, how long we keep that information, and the rights you have regarding it. We have reworded some content, and added details in an effort to make our practices easier for everyone to understand. We will also look to make further updates and changes as needed.

Once the new Privacy Policy is posted we encourage you to please review it in its entirety. Please note that by using our Website or Services on or after the effective date of the new policy, you will be accepting the revisions and agreeing to the changes. As part of that process you will have to agree to our new Terms of Use once they are live on the Website if you want to access your account, and you will also have an opportunity to opt-in to the HostSEO's News & Updates email list at that time as well.

What is GDPR?

GDPR is short for the General Data Protection Regulation. The law was passed by European lawmakers to create a harmonized data privacy law across EU member states. Its purpose is to:

1. Support privacy as a fundamental human right.
2. Require companies that handle personal data to be accountable for managing that data appropriately; and give individuals rights over how their personal data is processed or otherwise used.

How does GDPR impact you?

Individuals, companies, or businesses that have a presence in the EU or, if no presence, offer goods or services to, or monitor the behavior of, individuals in the EU need to comply with this law.

What do you need to do differently to comply with GDPR?

If the GDPR applies to you, there are various obligations you will need to comply with in order to continue doing business with your customers from the EU. Luckily, not all of these obligations are new, so you should be complying with some of them already.
